Garnett Wharfe is a unique, attractive carbon-neutral mixed-use development comprising of houses, flats, a retirement complex, office space and a visitor centre. The development utilised its waterside location and historic legacy as a paper mill and installed a Twin Archimedes Screw Turbine Hydroelectric Generation System. The development included a renewable air source heat pump, used to regulate the temperature of the visitor centre. The scheme has huge value environmentally due to the installation of sustainable energy technology and ongoing concern for local ecology. Furthermore, the provision of office space and employment opportunities has economic merits for the local community.
