LLDC Women and Girls Safety Project

The issue of gender inequality in urban design and planning has been chronically overlooked. LLDC is pioneering work on gender mainstreaming. It is the first local planning authority that have gathered gender-disaggregated data to establish a baseline against which the results of the urban design interventions set to improve gender equality will be measured. The work has been done in collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders showing a unique example of public-private collaboration demonstrating a shared commitment to delivering change. The Gender Inclusive Urban Design Guide, which is currently being prepared, could set benchmark guidance for other local authorities.
