Pinsent Masons

Submission Summary:

The Silvertown Tunnel was one of the most challenging and controversial infrastructure projects in London. Previous attempts to obtain consent for new river crossings in east London failed (notably the Thames Gateway Bridge) due a variety of consenting and political challenges. Pinsent Masons' gave strategic advice to TfL since 2011 on how to overcome these challenges. We helped obtain the first ever s. 35 direction under the Planning Act 2008 for the project and developed an innovative user charging and monitoring and mitigation regime to address significant concerns regarding air quality and local traffic impacts.
