The Welsh Streets, Liverpool

Submission Summary:

The Welsh Streets successfully demonstrate how our shared built heritage can be repurposed for modern living. The rich architectural features have been preserved, whilst ‘out of date’ elements such as narrow footpaths, back yards and alleys have all been replaced to create a new neighbourhood with community at its heart.

Once an area of housing failure, The Welsh Streets is now a neighbourhood where households are literally queuing up to move into.
All of this has been achieved in a council ward recognised as one of the most deprived in Liverpool and with no reliance on grant or subsidy.
