Dr Deb Upadhyaya

Specialist-Planning and Board Director, Homes England and The Academy of Urbanism

 

Deb is a passionate advocate of sustainable urbanism, delivery of quality places and value creation through design led innovation. Over the last 19 years, Deb have led delivery of exemplar large scale and complex housing, regeneration, garden communities and sustainable masterplanning/ urban design projects both in public and private sector (UK and India). For Deb, it's all about PLACES : PEOPLE : PARTNERSHIPS Presently, Deb works as a specialist planner at Homes England and as a Board Director for The Academy of Urbanism. Deb is also a Design Council Built Environment Expert and an independent advisory design panel member for the Sheffield Sustainable Development and Design Panel and Essex Quality Review Panel.

Deb is a RTPI Ambassador, a member for both the RTPI Policy, Practice and Research Committee and Urban Land Institute NEXT committee. Deb peer reviews publications for the ICE Urban Design and Planning journal and has been appointed as the External Examiner for Manchester School of Architecture for its MA in Architecture and Urbanism course. Deb champions inclusion and diversity as the key building blocks to deliver resilient built environments and he has been continuing his independent practice led research on all aspects of delivering 'quality' and 'at pace' linking academia, stakeholders and the wider industry. Deb has been a regular mentor to young professionals, and has delivered invited lectures at Universities, international forums and symposiums.

A Chartered Town Planner and a Chartered Manager, a Recognised Practitioner in Urban Design; Deb is a professionally trained Architect and Urban Designer (National Institute of Technology, Raipur and Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology, Ahmedabad, India). Deb completed his Doctorate in Philosophy (PhD) on City Centres and an Executive Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Sheffield.
