About The Awards

Who can enter the Awards?

Any individual, organisation or partnership involved in professional planning, placemaking, regeneration, urban design or economic development - whether from the public, private or voluntary/community sectors anywhere in the UK. 

This includes local authority planning teams, planning consultancies, law firms, developers/housebuilders/architects, and other stakeholders involved in planning or placemaking work. You can download the entry kit here.

Why should I enter?

There are a number of real benefits to entering these Awards. You can find out more about why you should enter here.

How do I find out if I've won?

By attending the event! This will not only be a great opportunity to network with your peers, but also a chance to celebrate the greatest achievements of the industry from the last 12 months. Attending the event is the best way to join the celebrations and discover if you've been crowned as one of this year's worthy winners.

If you for any reason you can't attend, we will send your trophy on to you (if applicable).

Entering the Awards

How do I enter the awards?

To enter, you must complete the online entry form here where you'll be asked to submit a key image, executive summary and any optional supporting materials. You can find out more by downloading the Entry Kit here.

Is there a fee to enter?

Yes, there is an entry fee to enter. You can find out more on pricing here.

Can I submit multiple entries?

Yes, you can submit as many entries as you like, provided they meet the eligibility criteria.

What is the deadline for entries?

Deadline information can be found here.

Can I amend my entry or move the category once it's been submitted?

Yes you can log back into the portal here to make minor amends to your entry after submitting. If you submitted at a discounted entry deadline and need to make amends or move categories after this deadline has passed, the higher rate will apply. Read the T&Cs here.

When will I receive confirmation of my entry?

You should receive a confirmation email once you complete your registration. This will come from [email protected], please check your junk mail if you haven’t received it. Please email [email protected] if you would like your confirmation email to be resent.

What is your refund policy?

If you wish to withdraw your entry, you must email us at [email protected]. Where you withdraw your entry more than 14 days after booking, or on or after the closing date for entry (whichever is earlier) there will be no refund.

Do you offer feedback to all entrants? Even if we aren't shortlisted?

We will happily offer feedback to anyone who enters, whether successfully shortlisted or not. This can be requested once judging has taken place. Please note, although we ask, not all judges provide written feedback, so in some rare instances this may not be possible. 

Do you allow the use of AI?

We acknowledge that the use of AI has become increasingly common, transforming how people work and the outputs they deliver. In light of this, we expect entrants to indicate clearly where AI has been used - whether in the development of the work itself or in shaping the written entry or any associated assets submitted as part of that entry.

Will my entry be published? I have confidential information within it

We would not publish your entry without prior permission. If you were shortlisted, we may publish your Executive Summary so we do ask no confidential information is included within this. If you win, we would do a write up on your entry, but this shouldn't include any confidential information. You can additionally mark parts of your entry as confidential/not for publication to ensure this, provided such restrictions are not used unreasonably.

Entry Code of Conduct

Haymarket Events, part of Haymarket Media Group, is committed to ensuring that all entrants and entries are judged fairly, equitably, and by their peers. With this in mind, we would like to remind all entrants that we expect them to enter their work in good faith, with honesty and integrity.

We expect all entries to represent bona fide work that a company or agency is proud to have produced.

We acknowledge that the use of AI has become increasingly common, transforming how people work and the outputs they deliver. In light of this, we expect entrants to indicate clearly where AI has been used — whether in the development of the work itself or in shaping the written entry or any associated assets submitted as part of that entry.

If it becomes clear that an entry, or if the work entered, has been fabricated in any way, whether intentionally or unintentionally, Haymarket Media Group reserves the right to disqualify the entry.

If results have already been published, we retain the right to rescind the award and will publish an explanation on our relevant brand sites. Please note: any such decision will be made in consultation with the Chair of Judges and/or relevant judging panel.

Judging Process

Who are the judges?

Our judges are leading experts and professionals from the built environment industry. We select judges for their expertise, experience, and impartiality. A full list of judges can be found here.

How can I become a judge?

You can nominate yourself or a colleague here - this will then be reviewed .

How are the entries judged?

Entries are judged based on a set of criteria outlined for each award category - you can find out more in the Entry Kit here. The judging process is rigorous and involves multiple rounds of review to ensure fairness and accuracy. The judges' decisions are final.

Is the judging process confidential?

Yes, the judging process is strictly confidential. Judges are bound by a non-disclosure agreement, and all information submitted in your entry is kept confidential.

If I'm a judge can my company or I still enter the Awards?

Of course! We would just ensure you weren't judging your own entry or categories you entered to maintain the integrity of the judging process.

When and where is the awards ceremony?

The Awards evening will take place on Thursday 4 June at the IET London: Savoy Place.

Embankment | Northern, Bakerloo, Circle, and District lines
Leave Embankment underground station via Embankment exit to the right.

Turn immediately left onto Victoria Embankment and follow the road along to the first left turn, before Waterloo Bridge, where you will find IET London: Savoy Place on the corner.

By Taxi:
Please provide drivers with the postcode WC2R 0BL and the venue name IET London: Savoy Place.

By Car / Parking:
There is limited parking outside of IET London: Savoy Place, behind the Embankment Gardens on metered bays.

Alternatively, there is an NCP car park just two minutes drive from the venue in Drury Lane, Covent Garden.

Please note that IET London: Savoy Place is located within the congestion charge zone

By Train:
Waterloo Station
One stop on Northern or Bakerloo Line to Embankment station, or walk across Waterloo Bridge to IET London: Savoy Place.

Victoria Station
Three stops on the Circle and District Lines to Embankment station.

Euston Station
Five stops on the Northern Line to Embankment station, walk two minutes from the station to the venue through the Embankment Gardens.

Liverpool Street Station
Seven stops on the Circle Line to Embankment station, walk two minutes from the station to the venue through the Embankment Gardens.

We encourage all of our guests to use a sustainable means of transport when travelling to our events.

What are the event timings?

19.00 - Welcome Drinks and Canapé reception

20.00 - Theatre-Style Awards Ceremony

21.00 - Networking, Drinks, Bowl Food and Desserts 

22.30 - Bar Closes

23.00 - Carriages

Is there a cost to attend? How do I book a table or tickets for the awards ceremony?

Yes, there is a fee to attend. Tickets will be on sale once we have closed for entries. 

Can anyone buy a ticket?

While the event will be widely attended by those shortlisted, anyone in the industry is welcome to purchase tickets.

When will I receive confirmation of my booking?

You should receive a booking confirmation email once you complete your booking. This will come from [email protected], please check your junk mail if you haven’t received it. Please email [email protected] if you would like your confirmation email to be resent.

When will I receive my ticket?

Your ticket will be sent one week out from the event. This will come from [email protected].

What is the dress code?

The dress code for the event is Business Smart. 

Can I bring guests?

Yes, you are welcome to bring guests. Each guest will require a purchased ticket to attend.

Are there any age restrictions?

All Attendees must be at least 18 years of age on the date of the Awards Ceremony.

Do I need to make a speech if I win?

We kindly request no speeches during the event. We have a lot of categories to get through and want to maximise your post-show celebrations and networking time.

Can I transfer my place to someone else?

Yes we can arrange this at no extra charge. Please contact [email protected] to arrange.

Can I cancel my registration?

If you wish to cancel your attendance, you must email us at [email protected] as soon as possible. If you cancel 30 or more days before the Awards Ceremony, we will refund your Attendance Fee in full, though we reserve the right to retain an administration fee. Where you cancel less than 30 days before the Awards Ceremony, there will be no refund.

Can you accommodate dietary restrictions and allergies?

Yes these can be added to the guest info in the booking form or you can contact [email protected]. Requests must be made at least 2 weeks in advance of the event to guarantee we can accomodate the request. 

Do you offer non-alcoholic drinks?

Yes of course. Please contact [email protected] if you would like to swap your drinks package for a non-alcoholic alternative 

Will there be photography at the event?

Yes there will be photography and video production taking place during the event and the resulting images may be used for promotional purposes on-line and/or in printed materials. T&Cs can be found here.

Do you offer any discounted accommodation?

We have partnered up with Priority to offer you the best rates on hotels in the local area.

Is there a cloakroom?

Yes there will be complimentary cloakroom at the event for small bags and coats. This is located on the same level as the drinks reception.

Can I buy additional trophies?

Event Code of Conduct

Haymarket Media Group, the organisers of The Planning Awards, are committed to ensuring our events provide a positive and enjoyable experience for everyone present. All attendees are expected to adhere to our Events Code of Conduct, found here, to ensure a safe, respectful and inclusive environment for everyone attending.

What is your overall commitment to accessibility?

We ask all our attendees if they have any additional requirements as part of the booking process and make every effort to accommodate them. We're committed to making this event accessible to everyone. If you have any further questions about the accessibility of the event or if there's anything we may be able to arrange please contact [email protected] who can support you in with your access needs and getting any necessary adjustments made.

Are there quiet spaces or sensory-friendly areas available?

At present, this is not something we are able to offer at the venue. Please do reach out to [email protected] to discuss your needs and we will do our best to accommodate your requirements.

Is there a Prayer Room?

Will live captioning be available?

Will a hearing loop be available?

Do you have details about venue accessibility?

At IET London: Savoy Place are dedicated to offering the highest possible levels of accessibility to enable full participation for everybody attending events.

The location benefits from many different travel options, and they are using what3words which gives an exact location of the accessible/step-free entrance here: ///actual.almost.fantastic.

Mobility:
Savoy Place has a Sesame lift at the front entrance as well as removable ramp access to the side of the building.
All floors are fully accessible via two lifts on either side of the building and all levels are then fully accessible with step-free access throughout.

Both lecture theatres have built-in ramps.

There are designated areas for wheelchairs in both lecture theatres with companion seats.

The accessible toilets have lowered basins, grab rails, and an alarm chord to reach reception.

Will there be special effects that may impact me?

This event features loud music, complete darkness, flashing lights and images. Water (and refined mineral) based atmospherics are used throughout the event.

Are assistance dogs permitted?

Yes. Please inform us when booking so we can reserve a space for you and your dog.

How can I communicate my specific access needs?
