IAG have commenced the operation of their vertical farm in Bracknell. While we argued that the use fell within the definition of agriculture, the Council disagreed and we appealed by way of a hearing. The Inspector granted a Lawful Development Certificate, confirming the use as an agricultural one. This is a landmark decision which has significant implications for agriculture in the UK and internationally. IAG's farms use 95% less water than land-based farms, do not require the use of chemicals which harm the environment and provides an important new route to food security in the UK while significantly reducing food air miles.
