Oval Village Phase 2

GRID Architects with Berkeley Homes

The Oval Village project aims to transform 17 separate parcels of contaminated, derelict and inaccessible land into a community of 738 homes plus shops, cafes, offices, and open space. Incorporating the two-hectare Oval Gas Works, the project will retain and refurbish the listed gasholder while drawing inspiration from the site’s industrial heritage. Building and landscape designs have been inspired by the gasholder. The project, which has been granted full planning permission, includes a mix of dwelling types and tenures — including 425 affordable homes. The judges praised “a great example of urban regeneration” with a “very strong and appealing identity”.
