Executive summary from entrant:

Home to the former wholesale markets, Smithfield Birmingham occupies an area known for its rich trading history. The regeneration of this predominantly vacant site will celebrate its significant history and create a new urban quarter that expands the city centre, unlocking economic and social opportunities for all who live and work there. With integrated public transport and an extensive network of green streets and open spaces, the project exemplifies a zero-carbon future – delivering 3000 much-needed homes and 9000 jobs through the recreation of the historic Bull Ring markets and new leisure, cultural and commercial spaces.
