 The Strategic Development service deals with large planning applications, working with developers through detailed pre-apps to ensure timely permissions while delivering significant benefits for Southwark’s residents.  This has resulted in 2,923 homes being approved between June ’23 and April ’24, of which over 40% were affordable homes, in addition to this, £39m was secured as a financial contribution for affordable homes along with two community centres and a medical centre.  To generate jobs, over 250k sqm of office space was approved which would provide almost 20,000 new jobs.  This was through 24 schemes at planning committee, all but one approved.
