TREVOR BASIN AND SURROUNDING AREA MASTERPLAN (NEAR LLANGOLLEN)

Arcadis (with Canal & River Trust in Wales, Wrexham County Borough Council, and Solutia (UK) Ltd)

The next chapter for this area, in a truly unique story spanning over 200 years and more, is based around decisive structural intervention. The masterplan presents a route-map for redefining visitor experience and accessing community benefits. Pontcysyllte translates from Welsh as the bridge that connects; through proposed interventions, the ambitious yet sensitive masterplan reconnects the World Heritage Site (WHS) and former industrial land with those communities originally created to serve it.

The masterplan articulates environmental, economic and social wellbeing benefits supported by strong stakeholder and public engagement. Sensitive yet catalytic proposals will result in a transformational step change in how the area is used and experienced by local people and visitors alike that balances the needs and desires of all whilst safeguarding the Pontcysyllte and Canal World Heritage Site.
