Weyside Urban Village, Guildford Borough Council

Guildford Borough Council

Guildford Borough Council, Thames Water, and Surrey County Council share ownership of a 30-hectare brownfield site currently occupied by a sewage treatment works and a recycling centre. The Weyside Urban Village project will relocate these facilities and provide up to 1,550 homes, six Gypsy and Traveller pitches, and 6,600 square metres of employment space. An outline permission also includes plans for a local centre, landscaped open spaces, and sustainable transport facilities. The judges admired a “group of landowners wanting to deliver a lasting legacy” and praised the project’s “focus on inclusivity”.
